In 2003, after Alison Malmon's only brother, 22-year-old Brian, committed suicide, the University of Pennsylvania junior was driven to combat the lack of understanding she felt led to Brian's death by creating Active Minds, a national nonprofit organization that works to foster open dialogue about mental health issues in the college-age population.
